Troubleshooting
Common issues and how to fix them.
Spam is still getting through
- Check your sensitivity setting. Try switching to High from Settings → RightComments.
- Add specific patterns to your Always Block rules.
- Make sure the plugin is active and showing "Connected" on the settings page.
Legitimate comments are being flagged
- Switch sensitivity to Low or Default.
- Add relevant topics to your Always Allow rules. For example, if you run a marketing blog, add "SEO discussions" to prevent marketing-related comments from being flagged.
- Check your WordPress spam folder — flagged comments are never deleted, just moved to spam. You can restore them from there.
Plugin shows "not connected"
- Click Connect to RightComments to re-establish the connection.
- Make sure you're logged in to your RightComments account at .
- If you have an active subscription but can't connect, try disconnecting and reconnecting.
Comments aren't being scanned
- Verify the plugin is activated in Plugins in your WordPress admin.
- Check that the settings page shows "Connected" with a green badge.
- Check the dashboard — if you see a "Scanning is paused" banner, click Resume to start scanning again.
- The plugin only scans new comments — it won't retroactively scan existing comments.
- Comments from logged-in users with moderation privileges are not scanned (to avoid false positives on admin comments).
- Comments from a commenter whose email already has 5+ approved comments on your site are skipped (auto-trust). This saves quota and gives regular readers a smoother experience. If you want this behavior off or tuned to a different threshold, contact support.
- Comments that another plugin (Akismet, Antispam Bee, etc.) has already marked as spam aren't re-scanned by RightComments.
I marked a comment correctly but the AI keeps missing similar ones
Whenever you mark a comment as spam that RightComments let through (or unspam one RC caught), the plugin silently sends that signal to RightComments so we can measure and improve. You don't need to click any extra button — moderate normally and the feedback flows. Trends show up over weeks, not minutes.
Plugin update not showing
- WordPress checks for updates every 12 hours. You can force a check by going to Dashboard → Updates and clicking "Check Again."
- If you're running a caching plugin, clear your cache.
